Let’s face it: we all know that smoking is straight up bad for your health, no matter which way you look at it. The evidence is there to support this in many ways. However, is it a known fact that smoking actually causes erectile dysfunction? Is there any evidence to support this? You betcha. However, every person is different, and just because they do smoke, it does not necessarily indicate that is the primary factor for their ED. Correlation is not always causation. We do have data from the American Heart Association that gives specifics details and findings into the study.
Did you know that there are over 4000 chemicals in a tobacco cigarette? The U.S Government has approved over 599 chemicals which are currently manufactured into cigarettes. If you are a smoker, then you need to see the list of cigarette ingredients here. It will open your eyes up to a whole new level. There are more than 59 of those ingredients which are known, for a fact, to cause cancer.
So, getting back to ED, is it possible that smoking can cause the circulation to your penis to slow down, causing you to go limp, or placid? Here, we examine a few statistics from The American Heart Association, which gives us a few more statistics that will help build a supporting foundation for our argument.
It has widely been known that smoking and ED have, for the most part, been associated with build up within the arteries. This is otherwise known as atherosclerosis. This condition arises when a major build up of plaque causes the blood flow to become obstructed, which leads to circulation problems, and therefore, erectile dysfunction.
A research study performed by the American Heart Association reported that:
- Compared to men who don’t smoke, men who smoke 20 or more cigarettes per day have a 60% higher chance of getting ED
- If you smoke right now–or even if you smoked in the past–you’re at a 30% chance of having impotence problems than thise who do not smoke
- 12% of men had erection problems compared to thise who had never lit up
- 15% of current and former smokers have erection issues.
The American Journal of Epidemiology also reported that in 2001, that there were over 46.2 million adults who were smokers, with 440,000 premature deaths per year and 157 billion dollars in health and economic losses per year.
And that was just in the year 2001. It has been 10 and a half years since that publication was published…can you imagine what that number is like now?
While a few may discount the link between smoking and erection problems, the majority can agree that it certainly can cause circulation problems that can and do effect the blood flow into the penis.
How To Stop Smoking Cigarettes to Help Improve Circulation
There are a few ways a person can quit smoking, however, everyone quits in their own way. Some things work well for one person, while they may not have the same effects on another. Here are the most common methods people have used to quit smoking to improve their circulation and rid themselves of erectile issues.
These are the basic methods most people use to quit smoking. Keep in mind…if you are trying to quit smoking, it will not be easy. it will, in fact, be the toughest thing that you ever do in your life. Nicotine addiction is just as hard to overcome as heroin addiction. Can you believe that? Also, many people who end up finally quitting end up smoking again at a later date within 1 year of quitting. This is why it’s utterly important that you have will power and motivation to fight the cravings. Nicotine stays in your body for 3-5 days, and if you can make it that long without a cigarette, then you have it made. Also, if you can make it past the first year, your chances of relapsing are reduced considerably.
In the process of quitting, you must keep your mind busy and occupied. This is where behaviour replacement therapy comes into play. If you are accustomed to doing certain things when you smoke, then you msut either stop doing those things, or learn to do them without smoking.
For example, when you feel like lighting up, put a straw in between your fingers and pretend you’re smoking that.
